Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila expands with new East Valley location

An Old Town Scottsdale Mexican dining staple is branching out into the East Valley.

Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila will officially open its second Arizona location in Chandler on Wednesday, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m.

Located at 900 N. 54th St., near the intersection of 54th Street and Ray Road, the new venue comes from Backbar Hospitality Management, the team behind local concepts Nello’s Pizzeria and Ghost Ranch Modern Southwest Cuisine.

Spanning 5,000 square feet, the new Chandler site will accommodate up to 300 guests. That includes indoor seating for 250 as well as room for 50 patrons spread across two outdoor patios.

Co-founder and owner Roque Jimenez said the expansion holds personal significance.

“Inspired by our travels through Tequila, Jalisco, and visits to some of the region’s incredible distilleries, my business partner and co-founder, Bob Schulken, and I created a space that celebrates the traditions of agave culture while embracing a fresh contemporary Mexican aesthetic,” Jimenez said in a news release.

“As long-time residents of the Ahwatukee and Chandler communities, we could not be more excited to bring an elevated Cien Agaves experience to Chandler and share our passion for authentic Mexican food, tequila and genuine hospitality with the entire East Valley community.”

First established in Old Town Scottsdale in 2007, Cien Agaves has built a reputation around its scratch-made Mexican cuisine, handcrafted cocktails and an extensive selection of more than 100 premium tequilas and mezcals.

Executive Chef Memo Bracamonte will oversee the kitchen in Chandler, bringing over familiar staples alongside new signature dishes making their way to both locations. New additions include the Tampiqueña (grilled arrachera steak served with poblano rajas, a cheese enchilada, guacamole, rice and beans) and pan-seared sea bass tacos topped with citrus slaw and avocado salsa.

Visually, the restaurant highlights work by Mexican artist El Moises, whose colorful, contemporary art is displayed throughout the dining room.

The Chandler restaurant will host daily happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuring food and drink specials, as well as all-day discounts for Taco Tuesday.

Cien Agaves Chandler will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
