NBA star James Harden among investors bringing Smiling Moose Sandwich Grill to Scottsdale

Smiling Moose Sandwich Grill, known for its Rocky Mountain Outdoor enthusiast inspired hospitality, is set to open a new location in Scottsdale next month.

NBA and former Arizona State University player James Harden is among the group bringing the eatery to the East Valley, which also includes former professional basketball player Troy Payne and Nico Fricchione, who also played basketball at ASU.

Its menu also consists of made-to-order sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, burgers and freshly baked cookies.

The restaurant’s grand opening is set for Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. off Scottsdale and Thomas roads. The first 100 visitors will receive a free 6-inch “Mo” signature sandwich and $50 Adidas gift card courtesy of Harden.

“Today marks not just a new chapter for this community, but a new chapter for my life,” Harden said in a news release. “I am excited to be a part of the team bringing Smiling Moose to Scottsdale. This has been my home for many years, and it makes sense to have roots in the place that gave me my start.”

A sandwich that was highlighted as a fan favorite is The Original Mo, which is made with chopped sirloin, melted American, romaine, tomatoes, onions, banana peppers, mayor and Mo’s vinaigrette.

The eatery will feature indoor seating, pick up and delivery though online ordering, catering services, a secret menu and collaborations every quarter with a guest chef.

“We’re thrilled to bring Smiling Moose to the Valley,” Smiling Moose franchisor Brian Padilla said. “Our goal is to provide delicious, high-quality food in a welcoming environment where families, friends and coworkers can gather and enjoy a great meal.”

Smiling Moose opened its first location in Colorado in 2003.
