Medical episode may have preceded deadly collision on I-10 in West Valley

A deadly collision caused delays on Interstate 10 in the West Valley on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A deadly collision caused delays on Interstate 10 in the West Valley on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The two-car crash occurred before 9 a.m. on eastbound I-10 near Verrado Way in Buckeye, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

One of the drivers, a 60-year-old man, may have experienced a medical episode before the collision, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. He died after being taken to a hospital.

Two people in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, DPS said.

Traffic was fully stopped temporarily before resuming with multiple lanes closed. Eastbound I-10 motorists were backed up to Watson Road by the time all lanes reopened around 10:45 a.m.
