PHOENIX – A New York-based frozen yogurt chain known for its exotic flavors is expanding into metro Phoenix with three new shops in 2026.
Arizona’s first 16 Handles is set to open this spring on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road in south Chandler. The opening date has not yet been confirmed.
The chain plans to follow up in the summer with stores at sites to be announced in Mesa and Scottsdale.
What can customers expect at 16 Handles yogurt shops?
16 Handles shops offer 16 rotating soft-serve yogurt flavors with a selection of over 50 toppings. They also sell ice cream, frozen novelties, edible cookie dough and other snacks.
The yogurt flavors range from standards like vanilla to limited-edition creations such as French fry, squid ink and butter beer.
16 Handles debuted in Manhattan’s East Village in 2008 and now has more than 40 shops. The company currently has 32 more stores in development after signing 25 franchise deals across seven states in 2025.
“Our franchisees are seeing exceptional early performance,” Fred Frey, the company’s vice president of franchise development, said in a press release. “It’s a great testament to our success when we see a majority of this year’s new single-unit operators already pursuing a second location.”
