PHOENIX — The founder and former owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes, Candace Nelson, said the company was closing all of its locations on Wednesday.

“A few days ago I learned that Sprinkle Cupcakes … will be closing its bakery doors today,” Nelson said in a video posted to Instagram.

Nelson started the cupcake company in 2005 with just a KitchenAid mixer before it expanded to have locations across the United States. It even launched its Cupcake ATMs which provide the baked goods to customers on demand.

In 2012, she sold Sprinkles to a private equity company and no longer has any operational involvement in the company.

How does Sprinkles Cupcakes closing affect Arizona?

Currently, the company has 21 locations spread across seven states.

Of those, only one of Sprinkles’ bakeries is in the Grand Canyon State. It’s located in Scottsdale at the intersection of Scottsdale and Camelback roads.

The other storefronts are broken up between California, Washington D.C., Florida, Nevada, Texas and Utah.

It also has 25 Cupcake ATMs, but they can only be found in California, Washington D.C., Nevada and Texas.

The company itself has not confirmed or put out any sort of statement regarding the closure of its locations.

They do not sell donuts. They are cupcakes. Regardless, they were very tasty if you like sugar, even if they were priced far too high.
