Chandler police officer fatally shoots knife-wielding suspect

PHOENIX — A Chandler police officer shot and killed a knife-wielding suspect while responding to a domestic violence call Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded to the area of Chandler Boulevard and Hamilton Street around 12:15 p.m., according to the Chandler Police Department.

Authorities said multiple people called 911 and said a neighbor was asking for help after getting into an argument with a family member.

What happened when Chandler police responded to call?

Upon arrival, police found 27-year old Messiah Deasure-Shamyl McMillian outside with a knife. After police told McMillian to drop the knife, he allegedly refused and ran toward an officer. Authorities said this was when the shooting occurred.

McMillian was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
