The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper after allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female motorist on Monday.

The woman was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run accident along a Cochise County road on Sunday evening, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The woman called authorities after she was stranded by the accident, and that’s when the alleged sexual misconduct occurred.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation when it was advised of a welfare check for a woman stranded in her vehicle, looking distraught. Authorities contacted her, and she reported “inappropriate sexual conduct involving an AZDPS trooper” who responded to her original call.

Investigators began looking into the allegations and identified the involved trooper. They contacted the trooper, 35-year-old Aiden Rosebeck, and he acknowledged having a physical interaction with the woman.

After discovering additional information and evidence, authorities established grounds for criminal enforcement action and arrested and detained Rosebeck into the Cochise County jail on charges of unlawful sexual conduct involving a police officer, which is a class 5 felony.

“Let me be absolutely clear, a badge is not a shield from accountability, and the authority to enforce the law does not place anyone above it,” Sheriff Mark Dannel said in a statement. “When someone is stranded on the side of a roadway, they should be able to trust that a law enforcement officer who stops to assist them is there to protect them, not take advantage of their circumstances. Any allegation that an officer has abused that position of authority is a serious matter, and one that demands immediate attention.

“There will be no double standard. There will be no special treatment. And there will be no looking the other way.”
