Anonymous Arizona family claims $75.2M Mega Millions jackpot

PHOENIX – A Lake Havasu City family that chose to remain anonymous claimed the jackpot from a Mega Millions drawing last week, the Arizona Lottery announced Thursday.

The winning trio, a married couple and the wife’s brother, chose the lump-sum payment for the Oct. 22 game and cashed in on $75.2 million, before taxes. The installment option would have paid out $108 million.

Their quick-pick ticket matched all five white balls — 9, 14, 26, 29 and 66 — and the gold Mega Ball of 22.

The family members said they’ve been buying $60 in lottery tickets every week, according to an Arizona Lottery press release, and won’t stop after hitting the jackpot. They plan to buy a motorhome and leave their jobs to travel.

Lottery winners in Arizona can keep their names from being released under a state law enacted in 2019.

The jackpot ticket was sold Oct. 20 at the Desert Martini bar in Lake Havasu City. The bar gets a $50,000 incentive for selling the winner.

It was just the second time a Mega Millions jackpot was awarded in Arizona. The other was a massive $414 million prize on June 9, 2020.
