SILENT WITNESS

Phoenix police searching for robbery suspect who threatened guard in 2018

Phoenix police are trying to find a beer thief from a 2018 incident and a person who took off with a cartful of tools from a Lowe's in 2017.

This beer run could have ended really badly. It happened on New Year’s Day 2018 at about 10 p.m. at the Circle K at Seventh Avenue and Roosevelt Street.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild said a man came in and headed straight for the beer, grabbing two cases.

“When he leaves, he makes zero effort to pay for anything. And what he probably didn’t realize is there’s a security guard working there.”

The guard followed him out and brought him back into the store.  That’s when the man threatened the guard with a knife and went back outside — really angrily.

“It looks like he’s yelling at the security officer who’s inside the store,” Rothschild said. “At one point, it looks like he picks something up and throws it towards the store.”

Finally, the man’s buddy walks him to their grey SUV and they drive off with the beer.

Next, do-it-yourself doesn’t mean help yourself. This crime happened at the Lowe’s at 19th Avenue and Baseline Road on Dec. 2, 2017 at about 4:00 p.m.

This sneaky thief made off with nearly $1,400 worth of stuff.

“He was acting like any other customer,” Rothchild said. “He got a shopping cart and in it he put cordless drills, batteries and pain sprayers.”

Then he went to the customer service counter and left the cart unattended.

Rothschild said he exited the store and came back in the entrance door near where he left the cart. Then he simply pulled the cart out the door and off he went.
