Just after 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, two men were creeping around a couple of vehicles parked in front of a home near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road.

“We don’t know if they were there for a property crime or what their reason for being there was but, ultimately, it ended with our victim getting shot,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild said.

The shooting happened when a man came out of the house to get into his vehicle. When he spotted the men and confronted them, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest.

The man survived the shooting; nearby surveillance cameras caught good video of the crime.

“We’re able to see the two guys sneaking around two vehicles, trying to cover their faces and looking in the vehicles,” Rothschild said. “Then, at one point, one of the men goes around the back of a vehicle and it looks like he’s pulling a weapon from his waistband.”

Next, a robber dropped the goods when good Samaritans began chasing him.

Rothschild said the victim and the suspect were on the same bus, “and when the victim got off the bus at 35th Avenue and Northern (Avenue), the suspect followed him.”

It happened at lunchtime on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Rothschild said the man began walking and talking with the victim.

Suddenly, the man reached over and ripped a gold chain from the victim’s neck then took off running. Witnesses gave chase and the man threw down the chain and kept running.
