PHOENIX — Flagstaff, Arizona, was recently named one of the top college towns in the nation, according to Fodor’s Travel.
Home to Northern Arizona University, the state’s only university that gets hit with all types of weather from the blazing hot sun to the icy cold snow, Flagstaff offers students and visitors alike the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities.
But the university isn’t all that makes up the small, northern town; Flagstaff is home to some of the state’s most unique destinations, offering activities from hiking to skiing to some good ol’ shopping.
For students who are looking to escape campus, Flagstaff offers a large range of national parks (nearly 700 acres total!) and more than 50 miles of hiking trails to explore.
Visitors who want experience some shredding can hit the slopes at Arizona Snowbowl, a well-known skiing and snowboarding destination located in the San Francisco Peaks.
Flagstaff is also home to some of the state’s most diverse festivals, such as the Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture, the Flagstaff Festival of Science, and the 3-day music festival Pickin’ in the Pines.
But what is arguably one of the best parts of Flagstaff? The Lowell Observatory, which offers a stargazing experience unlike any other.
