Scattered storms move through parts of East Valley

Scattered storms moved through parts of the East Valley on Monday night, prompting a severe thunderstorm warning.

The warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for east Mesa and Apache Junction and advised of strong gusts of wind, some dust and heavy rain.

Those areas received anywhere from 0.04 to 0.59 inches of rain by 8:45 p.m., according to Maricopa County’s Rainfall Data Map. Parts of Queen Creek and Gilbert also saw some moisture from the storms.

The weather activity first developed in northwestern Pinal County around 6:10 p.m.

There are increased chances of rain in the Valley until Wednesday, when the probability for precipitation reaches 60% to 70%,  according to NWS’ forecast.

The weather authority noted that with the higher likelihood of precipitation there is a possibility of localized heavy rain, frequent lightning, winds gusts exceeding 35 mph and blowing dust.
