PHOENIX — Two BuzzFeed reporters traveled to Arcosanti, an experimental micro city in central Arizona, to find out more about the society and about how residents live.
The video posted on Facebook, shows their interactions with certain Arcosanti officials and residents as they explore and work on construction in the city.
Despite their time living there, the hosts seem to have trouble describing what the city is and what they are trying to do.
Originally beginning construction in 1970, Arcosanti is described on its website as experimental city and an “urban laboratory” that is “seeking radical reorganization of the built environment.”
“Essentially, we are proving that you can live a rich life without necessarily being rich and without living in a development that is negatively impactful on the Earth,” public relations coordinator Shannon Mackenzie said in the video.
The town offers tours and overnight stays at its facility. While there is not set price, there are suggested donation amounts ranging from $10 to $30 per person.
“Arcosanti is trying to demonstrate something, how to build a city as a totally integrated, single structure,” said Jeff Stein, architect and co-president of the Cosanti Foundation’s board of directors.
The video is part of a Buzzfeed series that explores different communities and styles of living.
