Red Mountain High School stays open despite flooding, electrical issues

Red Mountain High School remained open Thursday despite storm damage that flooded parts of the campus, affected electrical systems and forced several classes to relocate.

The severe storm flooded multiple hallways and the school’s outdoor cafeteria. When power went out, the original emergency generator failed to start, according to Mesa Public Schools.

Classes on the flooded 100 Level were temporarily moved elsewhere on campus to preserve in-person instruction.

District crews are assessing the electrical systems, generator and other damage while determining what repairs are needed.

The district said it will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates to students, families and staff.
