PHOENIX — Southwest Airlines’ website and mobile app crashed Tuesday, leaving passengers opting to remotely check in for a flight in limbo.
After about three hours, the airline put a message on Twitter that they believed things were starting to return to normal.
We have reports of successful transactions and online check in. We appreciate your patience as we work to restore full functionality.

During the outage passengers were still able to check in for flights at airport kiosks and ticket counters.
The entire website was down, so those looking to book a flight or do anything else were also out of luck.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport said it was not affected by the technical difficulties.
However, flight listings on the airport’s website showed several Southwest flights were delayed. It was unclear if those delays were related to the website issue.
The difficulties came as the busy holiday travel season gets under way.
Nearly 2 million Arizonans were expected to leave town during the holiday season. Of those, about 567,000 were estimated to be flying to their destination.
