Scottsdale ranked as one of the nation’s top places to retire

The city of Scottsdale was ranked among the five best cities to retire in the United States in a study published last month.

Scottsdale was rated by WalletHub as the fourth-best city to retire in the nation as part of the study published on Aug. 31, titled “Best & Worst Places to Retire (2026).”

In a list of 182 cities, Orlando (first), Miami (second) and Tampa (third) ranked higher than Scottsdale. Stockton, California, came in last on the list.

Tempe (17th) also fared pretty well on the list, while Chandler (49th) and Tucson (55th) fared OK. Phoenix (76th), Peoria (90th), Gilbert (94th), Glendale (100th) and Mesa (117th) rounded out the Arizona cities on the list.

How was Scottsdale ranked on the list?

In the study, a city could earn up to 100 points, with affordability, activities, quality of life and health care factoring into the score. Scottsdale had a 58.87 overall score.

Scottsdale came in first in quality of life, with Tempe (14th), Gilbert (20th), Peoria (39th) and Mesa (45th) also faring well.

Scottsdale was also the Arizona city that ranked highest in activities at 18th, while Tucson (35th), Phoenix (45th) and Tempe (47th) also fared well.

Tucson, which scored 50.21 points, ranked highest among Arizona cities in affordability, coming in at 78th.

Tempe (30th) was the best Arizona city in health care, with Scottsdale (35th) not far behind.
