Body of adult pulled from grand canal in central Phoenix

PHOENIX — The body of an adult was pulled from a canal in central Phoenix on Friday evening, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, crews were called to the area of Third Avenue and Hazelwood Street around 5:45 p.m. for reports of a body in the water.

When firefighters arrived, they found an adult in the canal who was beyond resuscitation, according to fire officials.

Detectives with the Phoenix Police Department responded to the scene to remove the body and investigate.

The person has not yet been identified, police said.

Authorities added the cause of death will not be determined until a medical exam is done.
