PHOENIX — Construction will begin on a new Interstate 40 interchange in Kingman in early December, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
The Rancho Santa Fe Parkway interchange will be located about four miles east of the current Route 66 interchange at Andy Devine Avenue and will improve accessibility around the Kingman Airport.
The project will cost $44 million and is expected to be completed in 1.5 years.
The city of Kingman will separately construct Rancho Santa Fe Parkway.
According to ADOT, other project features include:
- Constructing two new bridges on I-40 at the new Rancho Sante Fe Parkway interchange
- Widening the existing bridges over Rattlesnake Wash
- Installing new sidewalks and curb and gutter
- Constructing pipe culverts, concrete box culverts and storm drainage
- Installing new traffic signals and lighting
- Installing new fencing, guardrail, signage and pavement markings
Construction will take place on days and nights Monday through Thursday, but only during daytime hours on Fridays.
Even though there will still be two lanes of travel in each direction during construction of the project, delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected.
