PHOENIX – The Gin Blossoms, who soared from the Tempe bar scene to national prominence three decades ago, are getting a thank you note from their hometown in the form of a street dedication.
The band is set to join city officials, including Mayor Corey Woods, on Friday for the unveiling of “Allison Road Avenue,” the new honorary name for the stretch of Eighth Street between Rural Road and Una Avenue.
Allison Road Avenue street signs will go up that morning.
The designation, which doesn’t change the mailing addresses on Eighth Street, commemorates the 30th anniversary of the release of “New Miserable Experience.” The 1992 album launched the Gin Blossoms to fame and featured hits such as “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You” and “Allison Road.”
The event is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. at Four Peaks Brewing Company, 1340 E. Eighth St. Members of the public are welcome.
The celebration will include a photo op with a giant version of the Allison Road Avenue street sign, along with memorabilia from the Tempe History Museum’s Tempe Sound exhibition.
Four Peaks will offer an all-you-can eat buffet for $15.50 and have to-go bottles of its limited edition Allison Road Avenue beer for sale.
