Prescott Valley police are investigating the death of a woman who was badly burned while someone tried to relight a backyard fire pit.

Prescott Valley police and Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority crews responded around 10:45 p.m. Sept. 24 to a report of a burn victim on Tracy Drive, police said.

Officers found a woman seriously injured in the backyard. She was flown to a Phoenix-area burn center, where she later died. A man at the home was also hurt but was not taken to a hospital. Police said the injuries happened while someone was trying to relight a fire pit.

A GoFundMe page started by relatives names the woman as Tammy Dodson.

It says she died Oct. 4 from burns “caused by another person’s actions involving gasoline and a fire.”

Police have not confirmed her identity or said whether anyone may face charges.
