National Park Service investigating shooting at Petrified Forest in Arizona

PHOENIX — A bullet from a gunshot struck an unmarked National Park Service vehicle at Petrified Forest National Park in northeastern Arizona on Tuesday.

The National Park Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the shooting that occurred in the morning, the park announced in a press release.

Two employees were in the vehicle, but no one was injured by the bullet, according to the release.

The main park road remains open during regular hours — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — but multiple trails closed on Tuesday.

The Blue Mesa Loop Road and all trails into the Blue Mesa area within the park are closed until further notice to allow law enforcement access, according to the release.

No suspects have been identified, and the investigating remains ongoing.
