Arizona congressional candidate arrested for alleged threats against judge, attorney’s office

An Arizona congressional candidate was arrested Saturday for allegedly making threats against a judge and an attorney’s office.

David Redkey, 45, was booked into a Phoenix jail on suspicion of two felonies – using an electronic communication to intimidate, threaten or harass and computer tampering – and a misdemeanor count of threatening or intimidating, according to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office records. His bond was set at $150,000.

“David Redkey communicated threats of violence to a Superior Court judge and an attorney’s office. TMU [Threat Management Unit] detectives contacted him on Sept. 19, and he admitted to the communications,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Details about the nature of the alleged threats were not immediately available. Court records for the case, including the arrest report, have been sealed.

Green Party does not support David Redkey’s candidacy

Redkey qualified for the Nov. 3 general election ballot as the Arizona Green Party nominee in the 3rd Congressional District. Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari is heavily favored to win reelection in the Phoenix district.

The Green Party did not have an official CD3 candidate on the ballot for the July primary. Redkey entered as a write-in candidate, which does not require signature petitions, and won with five votes.

However, Redkey does not have the support of the party, which lists him as “actively opposed” in its candidate endorsement ratings.

According to his nomination paper, Redkey has lived in Phoenix for nearly four decades and is a certified teacher. His LinkedIn page says that he worked at several Valley school districts, with his last teaching job ending in May 2025.
