PHOENIX – A 51-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were arrested in connection with the death of an 11-year-old boy at an Old Town Scottsdale hotel over the weekend, police said, with the woman being the biological grandmother of the boy.
Stephanie Marie Davis and her husband Thomas James Desharnais were both booked on charges of first-degree homicide and two counts of child abuse, the Scottsdale Police Department said in a press release.
Davis is being held on a $3.5 million cash bond, while Desharnais is being held on a $1.5 million cash bond.
Officers responded to a call about the boy not breathing and being unresponsive at the Extended Stay America on Marshall Way, near Goldwater Boulevard and Osborn Road, around 4:50 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
The boy was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.
Scottsdale Police detectives responded and took over the investigation due to the significant injuries of the boy, authorities said.
It was discovered another young boy was under the care of Davis and Desharnais, authorities said, with the Department of Child Services taking custody of the young boy.
Davis is also the biological grandmother of the young boy, authorities said.
Police haven’t released the manner of death of the 11-year-old boy, or the age of the other boy.
