PHOENIX — Arizona’s largest hospital system has tightened visitor restrictions across the state with COVID-19 statistics on the rise.

Banner Health will limit one visitor per patient per day in four Arizona counties where the virus is more prevalent, including Maricopa and Pinal, according to a Monday press release.

Two visitors per patient per day will be allowed at Coconino and Pima counties. Facilities in Arizona’s other counties will be able to have up to two visitors at a time.

“We understand this will be challenging, but we’re committed to take the necessary steps to protect you, your family, our health care workers and the community,” Banner said in the release.

There are some restrictions to the new rule, including for mothers in labor, end-of-life visitations and behavioral health units.

Visitors must be at least 12 years old and can’t have or be suspected to have COVID-19.

Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in Arizona and those who show up must wear masks.

Arizona health officials on Monday reported 1,846 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death from the disease.

Hospitalizations related to COVID-19 have more than doubled in the last month, with unvaccinated people accounting for almost all of the serious illnesses and deaths.
