PHOENIX — The coronavirus pandemic is causing a very different looking Thanksgiving this year as many families will have to forgo the usually packed holiday celebration.

So why not invite some four-legged friends over?

Tempe’s Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is allowing people to foster a dog for the Thanksgiving weekend, providing some much needed holiday joy for the dog and the temporary foster parent.

“It’s a great way to spread your love this holiday season, especially if you can’t be (with) friends and family from afar,” Jodi Polanski, founder of Lost our Home Pet Rescue, said in a press release.

The dogs can be picked up Wednesday and come back by Friday afternoon, Polanski said, while the temporary care dogs can stay longer if the foster families want.

“This program allows the dogs to have a shelter break and families get to enjoy a very grateful furry guest that won’t overstay their welcome,” Polanski said.

Lost Our Home Pet Rescue’s foster team will create a short term foster agreement and schedule appointments to pick up and drop off the dog.

The foster process begins online.

All dogs available to go home for the holiday have been medically cleared, according to the release.

We want to hear from you.
