PHOENIX — Harkins Theatres announced a solution for those who want to see a movie on the big screen but don’t want to sit with people they don’t know: private movie parties.
The theatre in a press release on Friday announced private movie screenings for up to 20 guests are available starting at $99, allowing people to book an entire auditorium and choose from a list of movies to show.
Parties can be booked online six hours in advance, according to the website. Seats and tickets are not permitted for resale.
Masks are required except when eating or drinking in a seat.
The Scottsdale-based movie chain, along with other theatres across the country, were forced to close in March as coronavirus mandates began going into effect.
All Harkins locations in Arizona, as well as Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas, reopened on Aug. 28.
Theatergoers were welcomed back with new health regulations including masks, socially distanced seating, shields throughout the theatre, loyalty cup refills in disposable cups, sanitize stations, hospital-grade air filters and increased fresh air circulation.
