PHOENIX — U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego is one of four Arizona leaders to have been named to former Vice President Joe Biden’s Latino Leadership Committee.
U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, state Rep. Lorenzo Sierra and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero have also been appointed to the committee, according to a press release.
The Latino Leadership Committee was announced Friday and will work with the Biden campaign on various strategies to engage Latino voters, especially in battleground states, officials said.
“As the nation falls further into unrest, unemployment soars, and COVID-19 cases spike, we need a leader at the helm who has the experience, moral fortitude and compassion to not only guide this nation out of this crisis but help the country heal,” Latino Leadership Committee Co-Chair Hilda L. Solis said in the release.
“With the Latino community being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 both economically and health-wise, it will be critical to have an ally in the White House.”
Solis is co-chairing the committee with former Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar.
The Latino Leadership Committee also has a presence in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
In order to reach Latino voters, the Biden campaign is also currently deploying a $15 million, five-week TV, digital, radio and print advertising campaign in English and Spanish-language content in Arizona and Florida.
