Maricopa County Colleges could hold fall classes in-person

PHOENIX – Depending on how the coronavirus pandemic looks in the fall, Maricopa County Community Colleges District is considering several options, including in-person classes, for the fall semester.
Interim Chancellor Steven R. Gonzales said in a press release Monday that MCCCD has plans to either hold in-person classes, live classes online, hybrid classes that split between either in person or live online and fully online classes without a set time to meet.
“It will take a tremendous team effort to prepare ten colleges, the district offices, and thousands of students for the transition back to campuses and classrooms,” Gonzales said.

MCCCD’s fall semester is set to begin Aug. 22.
According to the release, a survey sent out to students indicated a strong preference to return to in-person classes if possible.
As of April 6, MCCCD moved all spring classes to online or remote format to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.
Arizona State University and University of Arizona are planning to hold classes in-person this fall after moving to remote instruction in March in response to coronavirus.
ASU’s fall semester begins Aug. 20 and UArizona’s starts Aug. 24.
