PHOENIX — The northbound lanes of Interstate 17 were moving slowly on Wednesday afternoon as officials tried to catch two loose dogs on the highway.

The adventurous hounds began to slow traffic about 11:30 a.m. near Deer Valley Road.

Traffic cameras showed the small white dogs trotting down the freeway near the high-speed lanes as Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers pursued them.

Traffic started and stopped for nearly an hour while the dogs ran around, seemingly having the time of their lives.

The pair eluded the attempts of both troopers and concerned motorists as they made their way down the freeway.

One of the dogs was caught, but the other seemed to be enjoying itself a bit too much on the roadway as it continued to dodge helping hands.

The dog eventually made its way to a mobile home park just off the freeway at Deer Valley Road, where residents were able to capture it.

The incident was reminiscent of Llama Drama, when a pair of the creatures were running loose in Sun City three years ago.

Multiple networks followed the pair on live streams and Twitter, where the hashtag #LlamaWatch quickly became a trending topic as officials tried to stop them.

They were both captured after about 30 minutes and neither animal was harmed.

Neither dog was injured Wednesday. They were being taken to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelter near 27th Avenue and Durango Street.

We want to hear from you.
