PHOENIX — Sears Holdings, which owns the retailers Sears and Kmart, announced that several of its locations for those two brands will close down, the company announced.
Two of the effected stores — both Kmarts — are in Arizona.
“Today, we will initiate the closing of an additional eight Sears and 35 Kmart unprofitable stores as we continue to focus on our best stores and return to profitability,” CEO Eddie Lampert wrote in a blog post.
The Arizona stores to close are the store on Andy Devine Avenue in Kingman, Ariz. and the store located at 2526 W Northern Avenue in Phoenix.
“This is part of a strategy both to address losses from unprofitable stores and to reduce the square footage of other stores because many of them are simply too big for our current needs,” Lampert added.
All stores — except one Sears location — will close in early October. The company says liquidation sales will begin as early as July 13.

That's what happens when you don't effectively update your business model.
I remember the blue light specials. Attention Kmart shoppers we have a special in isle 3. That was always fun.
My thoughts exactly. How it has managed to hang on is a mystery. Sears CEO, Eddie Lampert, has single-handedly destroyed two American icons. He let the stores decay and let quality brands like craftsman go downhill.
