Motorcyclist seriously injured after crashing while fleeing DPS in Scottsdale

A motorcyclist was hospitalized after crashing in Scottsdale while fleeing law enforcement early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Troopers initiated a pursuit with the motorcycle around 1:43 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 10 just before the 43rd Avenue exit, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Officers with the Scottsdale Police Department were then called to the area of Via Linda and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard around 2:20 a.m. after the motorcyclist crashed.

The rider was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, but was in stable condition as of 2:20 p.m.

Scottsdale police said that DPS’s air unit was following the motorcyclist when they crashed. However, DPS claimed it was not actively pursuing the motorcycle at the time.

The roadway was closed from 2:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. while authorities were investigating the crash.

DPS did not say why they initiated the pursuit with the motorcycle.
