3 men arrested near Tucson after fleeing from Border Patrol

PHOENIX — Tucson Border Patrol agents arrested three men on Tuesday near the southern border, after they tried to flee from law enforcement.

The men were arrested near the Sonoita border, after they failed to yield for a traffic stop around noon, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection press release. 

Two of the men were Mexican nationals and the third was an American citizen and were spotted driving a GMC Yukon on State Route 82.

How did Tucson Border Patrol make the arrests?

Law enforcement pursued the men inside the car and deployed a vehicle immobilization device to bring the car to stop. The men proceeded to flee on foot.

Customs and Border Patrol Air and Marine Operations tracked the men and worked together with agents on the ground to find and arrest them. The men were then taken into custody and sent to a Border Patrol facility.

The American citizen was the driver of the vehicle and will face prosecution for alien smuggling, while the two Mexican nationals will be prosecuted for illegal entry into the U.S.

“This is another example of how reckless criminals value monetary gain over human life and endanger the American public,” Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean L. McGoffin said in the release.

“Tucson Sector Border Patrol remains vigilant and ready to defend our nation’s borders to uphold our American way of life.”
