Rain sprinkles the Valley in moisture ahead of potential thunderstorm

PHOENIX — Light showers drifted across metro Phoenix Monday morning, bringing a soft, steady rain to the region.

It’s likely that showers will scatter rain across the Valley for the next few days, according to Tom Frieders with the National Weather Service (NWS).

“We finally got a little bit of moisture that’s made its way westward into the Phoenix Valley,” Frieders told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

“That’s going to be hanging around just through tomorrow, Tuesday, before things dry out.”

How long will rain fall throughout metro Phoenix?

In addition to the possibility of rain lingering across the Valley for the next few days, NWS noted that there may be isolated thunderstorms on Monday south of Phoenix.

Chances for showers and isolated t-storms linger today and Tuesday across portions of South-Central AZ before conditions dry out midweek. There may also be gusty overflows from the southeast that could lead to dusty Valley streets.

“With the showers through Tuesday, not everybody’s going to see the rainfall, but we’re looking at a 30% to 40% coverage,” Frieders said.

It’s a rare speckle of rain in what has been a dry monsoon season so far. Frieders said the monsoon season has so far produced 0.016 inches of rain.

“It (wouldn’t) be the driest season on record if we weren’t to get any more,” Frieders said. “Hopefully, we’ll obviously have a lot of time to get more precipitation. … We’re just getting started, but so far it’s been pretty dry.”
