Phoenix sets new high temperature for third day in a row, breaks 75-year-old record

PHOENIX — The Valley’s unseasonably warm December continued on Tuesday as a new record high temperature was set in Phoenix for the third day in a row.
The mercury hit 80 degrees at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service uses for the city’s official measurements, at 1:34 p.m. That broke the record of 79 degrees, which was set in 1950.
Additionally, record-high temperatures were recorded in Phoenix on Sunday (81 degrees) and Monday (83 degrees). Those temperatures broke records set in 2024 and 1917, respectively.
The city also recorded new high temperatures on Dec. 14 and 15.
Will Phoenix’s string of record-high temperatures end Wednesday?
The Valley’s recent string of high temperatures looks set to end on Wednesday, as rain will usher in cooler temperatures.
The Phoenix metro area is expected to see rainfall overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, and high temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 70s and high 60s by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The Universe will have the last say as to when, how, and, even if humanity perishes. We are just mere passengers with an illusion that we are somewhat special. Yes, it does appear that from our current observations we are unique, but everything from our star, solar system, and galaxy screams mediocrity. Quick Doom or Later Doom, doom is inevitable. Math doesn’t lie, and the Universe loves math.
We don't need to help in our demise by ignoring climate solutions. Do the math.
Phoenix set new high daily temperature records 11 times in 2025, an astonishingly high number. But of course that number is nothing compared to 2024, when we set 39 new daily high temperature records.
It’s mind boggling how the fossil fuel industry tells republican voters not to believe their thermometer and nearly every climate scientist when they say it’s caused by burning oil, and they comply.
