Phoenix forecast for this week includes possibility of rain, colder winter temperatures

PHOENIX – The metro Phoenix forecast for the week includes the possibility of rain and some of the coldest temperatures of the winter.

It’s been unseasonably warm in Phoenix since the beginning of December, with high temperatures mostly in the 70s or 80s and the occasional day in the 60s.

Looking at the next the next 7 days, temperatures will start above normal and gradually cool to near to slightly below normal by the end of the work-week with a few weather systems moving through the region. In fact, Phoenix broke daily high temperature records five times last month, most recently on Dec. 23.

Phoenix temperatures will be closer to normal this week

But this week, highs are expected to stay around the normal range of 66-67 degrees, according to meteorologist Ryan Worley of the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

“Maybe a couple of degrees above that also, but we’ll be sitting right around that temperature range, so a bit more seasonal,” Worley told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, overnight lows could drop below the normal mark of 45 degrees, and possibly into the 30s, later in the week.

“We’re looking at actually some above-normal lows for the next couple of nights in the upper 40s to lower 50s, but we will be seeing those drop actually as we head later into this week, as we will be seeing at least a few systems moving through the region, and it’ll drop our lows maybe into the upper 30s and lower 40s,” Worley said.

Is there rain in the Phoenix forecast?

Additionally, parts of the Valley could see precipitation in the coming days.

“It looks like our best chances will be in the middle portion of the week as we head toward Wednesday and Thursday,” Worley said. “Right now, chances aren’t too impressive, maybe around 20 to 30%. There are some higher chances as we move closer to the foothills and higher terrain areas east of the Phoenix metro.”

If it does rain, totals are unlikely to surpass one-tenth of an inch, according to the latest metro Phoenix forecast.

“We’ll be keeping an eye on how things adjust and how things change over the next few days to see if maybe we see some more widespread rain totals across the Valley and if those rain totals will increase,” Worley said.
