Westbound I-10 west of Buckeye reopens following wrong-way crash that killed 1, injured 4

Westbound Interstate 10 west of Buckeye has reopened after a wrong-way crash on Saturday evening that left one person dead and four others injured, authorities said.

Troopers were notified about a small SUV driving eastbound on westbound I-10 around 6:50 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Not long after, the SUV struck another car, killing the driver. The four occupants of the second vehicle were injured, two of them seriously, and taken to a nearby hospital.

After the closure that lasted several hours, the westbound lanes reopened Sunday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were not affected by the crash.
