PHOENIX — The westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway was closed near Sky Harbor Boulevard for several hours Monday night for a law enforcement situation, authorities said.
The Arizona Department of Transportation announced the closure around 6:45 p.m.
A pedestrian was sitting on a retaining wall, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. After several hours of negotiations, the man jumped to his death, the Phoenix Police Department said.
ADOT said the freeway was reopened before the Tuesday morning commute.
Traffic was diverted to State Route 143 while the westbound Loop 202 was closed.
