2 lanes reopen on US 60 between Superior and Globe after flood damage repairs

PHOENIX — Traffic is expected to improve east of Phoenix following the completion of emergency repairs on a flood-damaged section of US 60, officials announced Tuesday.

The interim repair project began on October 20 to address damage between Superior and the Globe-Miami area, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The flood had washed away embankments and severely damaged the roadway near milepost 241, just west of Miami.

The project to restore the flood damage was made possible due to $3 million in emergency funding approved by the State Transportation Board on October 23, ADOT said.

As crews worked to restore the stretch of roadway, traffic was limited to a single alternating lane. ADOT advised drivers to expect 15-minute delays.

However, drivers should still expect delays.

Scheduled closures for a separate bridge replacement project between Superior and Globe will continue to affect traffic in the area.

These closures occur Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

During those times, drivers can detour via State Routes 177 and 77 through Winkelman, though this alternate route adds approximately 75 miles to the trip, according to ADOT.
