US 60 reopens after deadly crash involving semi-truck in East Valley

PHOENIX – Part of US 60 was closed in the East Valley for several hours Tuesday morning after a deadly crash involving a semi-truck, authorities said.

A truck believed to be carrying fuel was rear-ended by a car near Lindsay Road around 2:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The truck pulled over to the shoulder, but the car remained in the traffic lanes and was struck by two other vehicles.

One person has been confirmed dead, DPS said.

The eastbound side of US 60 was closed at Gilbert Road in Mesa while the multivehicle crash was being cleared and the scene was under investigation, DPS said.

The freeway reopened around around 7:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
