Watch out for traffic shift on I-10 for Wild Horse Pass project

PHOENIX — Both directions of traffic on the Interstate 10 near State Route 387/Pinal Avenue will be shifted to their respective outside shoulders beginning next week, as the I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor Project chugs along, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Eastbound drivers will see the shift begin at 5 a.m. Tuesday, whereas westbound drivers will be affected by project work starting at 5 a.m. Thursday, according to a Friday press release.

The lanes of I-10 traffic are expected to be modified like this for about a year, with the whole road project to be completed by late 2029.

Crews began the second phase of the Wild Horse Pass Corridor Project in early January, as they targeted the 10-mile stretch from Gas Line Road to south of State Route 387, which is north of Casa Grande.

The finished ADOT product will create three lanes in both directions on the I-10 south of Chandler to north of Casa Grande.

After this second segment of the project is done, crews will start building on an 11-mile stretch of I-10 in both directions from the Loop 202 (Santan/South Mountain Freeway) south to the I-10 Gila River bridges. That’s scheduled to start this summer.
