Northbound State Route 87 reopens near Fountain Hills after brush fire caused closure

A brush fire triggered a temporary closure of the northbound lanes of State Route 87 near Fountain Hills on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

After a brush fire triggered a temporary closure, the northbound lanes of State Route 87 (Beeline Highway) near Fountain Hills reopened Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The brush fire broke out around 19 miles north of the town, near milepost 209, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The brush fire, which was named the Picadilla Fire, burned 2 acres in the median before forward progress was stopped, according to a Tonto National Forest official.

The right lane reopened, though the left lane remained closed as of 11:45 a.m.

The southbound lanes weren’t been affected by the closure.
