Construction on State Route 79 passing lanes east of Valley to begin Monday

The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin constructing passing lanes on an 8-mile stretch of State Route 79 north of Florence on Monday.

Construction on the highway that connects to U.S. 60 east of the Valley will force 12-hour traffic restrictions Monday-Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Restrictions on Fridays will last for six hours from 6 a.m. to noon.

Drivers may experience traffic restrictions during the project. Work will take place 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 6 a.m.-noon Fridays.

ADOT gave a targeted completion date of summer 2027, subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather.

Details around State Route 79 passing lanes construction

Northbound lanes will be added at the following locations:

• milepost 140.45-140.95
• milepost 145.80-146.20

Southbound lanes will be placed here:

• milepost 143.65-144
• milepost 147.38-147.75

In addition to the newly constructed lanes, crews will fix and replace pavement where necessary, as well as address drainage and guardrail problems.

Travelers in the meantime could see shoulder or lane closures, flagging operations or other traffic restrictions.
