Phoenix mother arrested for I-17 rollover crash that killed her 9-year-old daughter

PHOENIX – A Phoenix mother was arrested after a rollover crash that resulted in the death of one of her children over the weekend, authorities said.

Brenda Liliana Rivera Estrada, 30, was behind the wheel during the single-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 17 near Peoria Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Rivera Estrada is the mother of four children who were in the vehicle. A 9-year-old girl who was sharing a seatbelt with a sibling was ejected during the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The mother and three surviving children — an 11-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl — were taken to a hospital for treatment and have since been released, DPS said.

However, Rivera Estrada was arrested and booked into jail on one count of manslaughter and four counts of child abuse. Her bond was set at $100,000.

According to ABC15, speed and impairment are suspected as factors. DPS said Rivera Estrada could face additional charges.

Northbound I-17 was closed for about seven hours Sunday for the investigation and cleanup.
