PHOENIX — Northbound Interstate 17 at Peoria Avenue has reopened after one person was killed and four others were left injured in a crash Sunday morning, according to authorities.
The one confirmed dead was a minor, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Authorities said it would be a “long-term closure” after the crash near the Cactus Road off-ramp was first reported by the Arizona Department of Transportation around 7:45 a.m.
Southbound I-17 was not affected.

There is no solution to vehicle traffic congestion other than viable alternatives to driving.
Make public transit more enjoyable and make cars inconvenient. How? Buses should pull into plazas like every other vehicle for boarding and unloading, go down every street just like a school bus, frequencies should be 15 minutes or less, and the main hub should be like an airport with services and amenities. It would be less expensive than car ownership and less burdening on the climate.
Until you ban private vehicles from the road, who cares? The number of people killed every year in auto crashes in the US is equal to the entire population of Maine (1,402,110).
