PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation announced that lanes have been added to the Loop 303/US 60 Grand Avenue interchange in Surprise to help ease traffic in the transitional area.
The construction of added lanes in both directions from Grand Avenue to 163rd Avenue was completed Friday after work first began last September, ADOT said.
A $1.8 million investment went into the traffic improvement project which also included the following:
- A third left-turn lane on the southbound Loop 303 off-ramp to access Grand Avenue.
- Widened southbound Loop 303 on-ramp from Grand Avenue for vehicle merging.
- Additional right-turn lane on eastbound Grand Avenue for accessing Loop 303.
The short-term focused project was done in partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments and the city of Surprise.
More long-term solutions for Loop 303/US 60 Grand Avenue traffic flow are set to begin construction in 2028. The first phase of work will target local residents, as a new interchange at Loop 303 and 155th Avenue will be created.
