Eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road closing for 2 months

PHOENIX — The eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway Gilbert Road on-ramp will close for about two months on Friday for a widening project, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The on-ramp is scheduled to close this weekend at 11:30 p.m. The renovation is part of the $200 million Loop 202 Improvement Project, according to ADOT.

Details on the Loop 202 freeway construction

The project is adding more freeway lanes and interchange upgrades. Construction will take place along eight miles of the Loop 202 Freeway between the Loop 101 Price Freeway and Val Vista Drive in Chandler and Gilbert.

Drivers should use eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Cooper or Lindsay roads.

The reconstruction of the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road is nearing its final stage and will reopen to traffic on April 26, according to ADOT.

Part of the funding for the construction came from Proposition 400, which is a Maricopa County half-cent sales tax that was approved in 2004. The widening project is managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments.
