Roadwork could cause delays on I-17 in north Phoenix this weekend

PHOENIX – Scheduled roadwork could cause intermittent delays on Interstate 17 in north Phoenix this weekend.

I-17 between State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) and Anthem Way will be affected at various times due to lane striping.

Both directions will be reduced to one lane at times overnight on Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

There also will be lesser daytime restrictions over the same stretch of I-17. One northbound lane will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while one southbound lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on each of those days.

What to watch for besides I-17 roadwork

Overall, the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Jan. 23-26 is pretty light on restrictions.

Only one other area is on the list, but mainline traffic won’t be affected.

Arizona Avenue and Lindsay Road will be closed in both directions at the Loop 202 Santan Freeway in the East Valley from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project. The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue is part of the closure.

Motorists will be able to cross Loop 202 at McQueen, Cooper and Gilbert roads and take Alma School Road instead of Arizona Avenue to access the westbound lanes of the freeway during the closure.
