Drivers face SR 51 shutdown, I-10 closure in weekend of Phoenix freeway work

Transportation officials are warning drivers to plan for weekend freeway closures this weekend, including a shutdown of southbound SR51.

PHOENIX — Arizona transportation officials are warning drivers to plan for major freeway closures across the metro Phoenix area this weekend, including a full shutdown of southbound State Route 51 and a partial closure of eastbound Interstate 10.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said southbound SR 51 will be closed between Indian School Road and the I-10 from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for pavement work. The work shuts down several on-ramps along the corridor.

ADOT is advising drivers to use southbound I-17 as an alternate route to downtown Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport.

More major freeway closures around the Valley

  • Eastbound I-10 will close at Perryville Road near Goodyear from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for pavement maintenance.
  • Near Deer Valley, north- and southbound I-17 ramps and westbound Loop 101 are closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.
  • Lindsay Road at Loop 202 in Gilbert is closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, also for widening work. Nearby Arizona Avenue will see alternating directional closures through the weekend.
