PHOENIX – Drivers need to be on the lookout for multiple freeway closures related to improvement projects and utility work around metro Phoenix this weekend.
Sections of all three area loops as well as Interstate 17 will have restrictions, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Jan. 30-Feb. 2.

Two closures are scheduled for Loop 101, one on the Pima Freeway section in north Phoenix and one on the Agua Fria Freeway part in the West Valley.
The eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for ramp widening work. The primary westbound Loop 101 ramp to southbound SR 51 will be closed, too, but the HOV ramp will be open.
Eastbound motorists should exit Loop 101 ahead of the closure and take Union Hills Drive or Bell Road to connect with SR 51, ADOT said.
Meanwhile, the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway will be closed in both directions between I-10 and Thomas Road from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday for overhead line work. The ramps to southbound Loop 101 from Cardinals Way, Camelback Road and Indian School Road will also be closed, as will both I-10 ramps to northbound Loop 101.
Traffic can avoid the Loop 101 closure by using 91st or 99th avenues, ADOT said.
Loop 202 Santan Freeway closure scheduled in Chandler
One other full mainline freeway closure is scheduled for this weekend. The westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed at Arizona Avenue in Chandler from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project. The ramps from Gilbert, Cooper and McQueen roads to westbound Loop 202 will also be closed, as will Lindsay Road in both directions at Loop 202.
Westbound Loop 202 traffic will be able to continue from the Arizona Avenue off-ramp to the on-ramp to continue freeway travel during the mainline closure.
Other restrictions to watch
Valley drivers should also be aware of the following restrictions this weekend:
- The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Dobson Road in Chandler will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday.
- I-17 in north Phoenix will have lane restrictions at times from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday in both directions between SR 74 (Carefree Highway) and Anthem Way, with possible overnight closures of the northbound I-17 on-ramp and southbound off-ramp at Carefree Highway.
- The westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway ramp to westbound I-10 in the Chandler/Ahwatukee area will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
- The southbound Loop 303 on-ramp at US 60/Grand Avenue in the West Valley will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.
