Seven freeway closures and lane restrictions will clog traffic across the Valley this weekend as crews tackle widening, pavement and construction projects on Loop 101, Loop 202, Loop 303, SR 51 and SR 347, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The closures run from Friday night through 5 a.m. Monday, according to the state’s weekly weekend travel advisory.
Eastbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway closing for widening work
Eastbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway shuts down between 75th and 51st avenues in the northwest Valley starting at 10 p.m. Friday as crews widen the roadway.
On-ramps at Bell Road and Union Hills Drive will close, along with the “Texas U-Turn” on-ramp near Union Hills Drive.
ADOT suggests Bell Road and Union Hills Drive as workaround routes.
Westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway closing for widening work
Westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway shuts down between Williams Field and Gilbert roads in the southeast Valley starting at 10 p.m. Friday for a widening project.
The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Higley Road will also close.
Southbound Higley Road is open as a detour, connecting to Germann or Williams Field roads.
Westbound US 60 Superstition Freeway is another alternative route.
Eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway closing for pavement work
Crews will shut down eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway from Loop 101 to McKellips Road along the border of Tempe and Mesa beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. The closure lifts at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Drivers heading east on Loop 202 can still reach the north- and southbound Loop 101 ramps, but should expect slowdowns.
ADOT recommends using surface streets as alternatives.
Loop 101 ramps to Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway closing
Adding to the congestion, all Loop 101 ramps connecting to Loop 202 are also closed this weekend starting at 8 p.m. Friday for a pavement improvement project.
The southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at McKellips Road will also close.
Surface streets are going to be the best way around the closures.
Southbound SR 51 narrowing to two lanes
Southbound SR 51 narrows to two lanes between Bethany Home and Indian School roads starting at 9 p.m. Friday for a pavement improvement project.
Off-ramps at Camelback and Indian School roads and the on-ramp at Highland Avenue may close at times during the weekend.
If you’re heading to downtown Phoenix, ADOT said I-17 is the best alternative route.
Eastbound Loop 303 closing between 43rd Avenue and I-17
Eastbound Loop 303 shuts down between 43rd Avenue and I-17 in north Phoenix starting at 10 p.m. Friday for a road construction project.
The best workaround is 43rd Avenue to Dove Valley Road to get back to I-17.
SR 347 narrowing to one lane near city of Maricopa
In the east Valley, SR 347 narrows to one lane in both directions off and on throughout the weekend. The closures happen between Riggs and Casa Blanca roads. That will affect traffic in and out of the city of Maricopa starting at 8 p.m. Friday.
